Gombe Goes Green (3G): Gov. Inuwa Yahaya to engage 27,000 youths

Ahead of the official launch of four  million tree planting scheme across Gombe State by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, a pilot  planting of one  Millio
n trees has commenced with over thirty  thousand already planted in Gombe metropolis and environs.

The programme,  tagged Gombe Goes Green (3G) is an initiative of Governor  Inuwa Yahaya's administration to plant one  million trees yearly aimed at tackling desertification and other environmental challenges.

The environmental challenges in Gombe State  are not limited to desertification as the state is also prone to erosion problem, especially in the  metropolis with a  severe gully erosion and the planting of more trees is aimed at arresting  the situation. 

Already 11 Non-Governmental Organisations ( NGOs) have been recruited to commence the work in 11 sites across Gombe Local Government Area in accordance with International best practice.

It would be recalled that Governor Inuwa Yahaya had recently vowed to embark on massive tree planting in the state as a strategic measure to counter the tragedy of desertification and flooding which pose threats to the lives of residents in various communities as well as infrastructures like roads and bridges in the state.

With the approval of the state Governor,  the first component of the project has kick-started with tree planting campaign in residential areas,  public places and schools as well as to sensitise residents on the need and benefit of tree planting. 

The project has as a component, creation of shelter belt in four local government areas in the northern part of the state.

Under the 3G programme,  Government will employ about 27 thousand youths, who will be paid N7,500 each monthly to nurse and watch over the trees as well  as make sure they survive and grow.
