The National Economic Council is an advisory body made up of the 36 state Governors, the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria and other co-opted government officials.

The body discusses issues and advises the President concerning the economic affairs of the Federation and in particular, on measures necessary for the coordination of economic planning efforts or economic programmes of various state governments.

Preparatory to this meeting, the state Governors, under the auspices of Nigeria Governors' Forum, NGF chaired by Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti state met yesterday in Abuja and discussed issues of common interests.

At the sideline of the NGF meeting, Governor Inuwa Yahaya had an audience with the Managing Director of Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, Usman Gur Mohammed in connection with the efforts to improve electricity supply in Gombe state.

The TCN boss was at the NGF meeting to brief the Governors on transmission expansion plan and its potential impact on improving power supply in states.
