Gov Inuwa Yahaya Meets CDS,Applauds Nign.Army For Its Counter Terrorism In The Northeast



Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe  state has met with Chief of Defence Staff, General Abayomi Gabriel Olonisakin at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja.

The meeting discussed among other things,  the security situation in the North East and the efforts at tackling the insugency challenges and its impact on Gombe State,  being the centre of the sub-region.

In particular,  Governor Inuwa Yahaya and CDS Olonisakin discussed the Federal  Government's Operation Safe Corridor, whose  main focus is geared towards rehabilitating and reintegrating the repentant and the surrendering Boko Haram members back into normal life in the society.

Gombe state currently hosts the operation safe corridor's rehabilitation centre  at the NYSC permanent orientation camp in Malam Sidi, Kwami Local  Government Area, where repentant Boko Haram members are being taken through various vocational trainings and tutorials as strategic measures towards their demobilization, deradicalization, disassociation and reintegration.

Governor Inuwa Yahaya, who appreciated the efforts of the Nigerian Military in the counter terrorism operations  in the North East, however made case for the host community of the operation safe corridor's camp in Malam Sidi to enjoy maximum benefit of the facility sited in their locality through improved social services, considering the inconveniences it causes them and their socio-economic activities.

The two leaders also discussed issues surrounding the NYSC orientation camp that houses the rehabilitation facility as well as the over stretching of facilities and social amenities in Gombe state due to in flux of people from the neighbouring states as a result of insecurity in their areas.

In his remarks,  the Chief of Defence Staff, General Abayomi Gabriel Olonisakin expressed appreciation to Gombe State for playing a big brother's role by agreeing  to host the Operation Safe Corridor Camp in the state, saying the government has been able to utilize the deradicalisation programme to bring positive dynamics in the counter-terrorism operations in the North East.

He acknowledged the support and cooperation of Governor Yahaya's administration to the Nigerian armed forces and the hospitality of Gombe people in accommodating victims of insurgency from  the neighbouring states as well as hosting the rehabilitation and deradicalization centre.

He also appreciated  the concerns raised by the Governor on the position of the NYSC camp and the social  services to the community, promising to address the matter as well as mitigate the challenges throughout duration of the programme.
