Governor Inuwa Yahaya approves immediate commencement of payment of outstanding gratuity for state retirees
...Payment for LG retirees to also follow suit after verification
In his determination to ensure that workers who have served the state and retired enjoy dignified and comfortable retirement life, His Excellency, Alhaji Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, the Governor of Gombe state has approved the immediate commencement of payment of outstanding liabilities of gratuity for 2014 retirees totalling about 1.1 billion Naira.
The Governor gave the directive after receiving an interim report of the committee he constituted to ascertain the correctness of the outstanding gratuities for the state retirees as at 29th May, 2019, chaired by the state Auditor- General, Muhammad Buba Gombe.
The amount of 1,097,968,035 is to cover payment to 504 eligible state retirees, with 50 per cent approved for immediate payment to the beneficiaries.
The payment of gratuity for local Government retirees will also follow suit after verification by the committee.
While appreciating the committee for a thorough job, Governor Inuwa Yahaya expressed determination to clear all backlog of gratuity and pension arrears before the inception of his administration on 29th May, 2019.
He used the occasion to assure workers in the state that his administration will encourage reward for hardwok, calling on them to rededicate themselves for effective service delivery.
It will be recalled that on assumption of office, Governor Inuwa Yahaya inherited a backlog of pension and gratuity arrears for state and local Government retirees to the tune of over 14 billion Naira from the immediate past administration which had received N17.5bn Budget Support, N5bn Bailout and another N10bn and N6bn Bailouts for state and Local Governments respectively, Totalling N38.5bn most of which was meant for such expenditures.
