We're On Course Despite League Opener Loss - Coach Zubairu Of Gombe United

Gombe United football club began their 2019/2020 Nigeria National League (NNL) campaign with a  1-0 lost against Kwara United.

The match kicked off at four o'clock hosts took control of the game at the Kwara stadium, Ilorin saw the Harmony Boys dictating the pace of the game in the early minutes before the Savannah Scorpions found their rhythm.

In the twenty fifth minute  Gedion Gambo parried out Abdulsalam's powerful header inside the box ,as the hosts mounted pressure  Isa Magaji in the 33th minute took a  free kick at the periphery of the box, but his shot hit the wall.

The first stanza of the match ended goalless with bothsides wasting plethora of chances.

 The Savannah Scorpions came into the second half more rejuvenated  with cylinders from all angles but to no avail.

In 57th ,Auwal Ahmed with dribbled passed a defender with  tricky footwork and advanced into the 16-yard before he slipped down in what seemed like a push but the Central Referee ajudged it as simulation.

Dede Menghara's Left footed sublime free kick from the right in the seventy one minute broke the hearts of the hard -fighting Savannah Scorpions; and  all efforts to equalise proved fruitless.

In post match interview , coach Aliyu Zubairu he was impressed with the performance of his boys despite the lost.

" I think the match was okay, we have learnt from our mistakes and we will make amends in our subsequent matches".

Coach Zubairu said his target is to win the sole ticket for group A2 as continue to work towards achieving set target and applauded the match officials for fair arbitration.

Gombe United will not be in action next week as they were drawn bye.
