Torch of Unity Arrives Gombe As Governor Inuwa Yahaya Assures Adequate Support To State Contingent

Governor  Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe state said his government recognised the role of sports in the promotion of unity and cultural harmony and would do everything possible to see that the state excel in the Festival.

 The Governor was speaking after receiving the Torch of Unity where he assured of his administration's intervention through quick release of funds and support for a victorious outing in Benin.

Represented by his Deputy ,Dr Manassah Daniel,the Governor said the government and people of Gombe state are happy to received the Torch of Unity after the official flag-off by President Muhammadu Buhari and applauded the minister of Sports for his iniatives so far.

Speaking, the Executive Chairman of the Gombe State Sports Commission Alhaji Hamza Adamu Soye has pleaded with the state government to hasten the release of funds to the commission for adequate preparations for the forthcoming National Sports Festival scheduled for Edo state next month.

Alhaji Hamza Adamu Soye made the plea after the presentation of the Torch of Unity  to the Governor of Gombe state Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya by the representative of the minister of Sports and Youth Development who is the North East Federal Ministry of Sports.

Alhaji Hamza Soye funds would be use to purchase kits and equipment for the  state contingent inaddition to closed camping among others.

He applauded the incumbent administration for its relentless financial support to the commission and expressed optimism that the spirit would be sustained for overrall development of sports in the state.

Earlier, the  Federal ministry of Sports Northeast zonal coordinator, Alhaji Datti said the Torch of Unity  symbolizes unity, peace, social cohesion, growth and development, adding that the 20th edition of the NSF will commence from 22nd March through 1 April in Benin the headquarters of Edo state.

The Torch of Unity has left Gombe for Yola and Jalingo respectively.

Gombe state will compete in sixteen sporting events.
