As Muslims across Nigeria mark this year's Eid El Adha, the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, is calling for a moment of deep national reflection.
In a message to commemorate the festival, the NUJ national president Alhassan Yahaya extended warm greetings to all Nigerians, urging them to reflect on the current socio-economic realities confronting the nation.
The Union commended the efforts of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration over the past two years, especially in its drive to entrench democracy and improve the welfare of citizens.
However, it expressed serious concern over the resurgence of Boko Haram, widespread banditry, and worsening insecurity, which it says are jeopardizing development efforts and humanitarian progress.
Also highlighted was the urgent need to address Nigeria’s growing food insecurity, worsened by power supply challenges and the ripple effects on agriculture and food access for millions of vulnerable Nigerians.
The NUJ is urging the Federal Government to re-evaluate its policies and adopt more effective and sustainable strategies that will secure lives, empower farmers, and ensure adequate food supply for all.
As the nation celebrates Eid El Adha, the Union is reminding Nigerians to show compassion, promote unity, and stand in solidarity with those affected by hunger and insecurity.
